Tip
Reserve the SINAC permit and a licensed guide well ahead (daily visitor numbers are capped) and choose your entrance by where you sleep: San Pedrillo from Drake Bay, La Leona from Carate, El Tigre or Los Patos from the Puerto Jiménez side.
Be careful
Wear closed shoes and long pants, carry more water than you think you need and time river mouths and beach stretches for low tide; do not walk the trails without a guide.
Getting there
Permit and guide required. Enter only through the ranger stations (Sirena, San Pedrillo, La Leona, Los Patos, El Tigre). Sirena is reached by boat from Drake Bay or Sierpe, a long beach hike from La Leona, or a small plane.
