Playa Blanca (Papagayo Peninsula)

Beach · Guanacaste · hidden gem

A white-sand beach on the Gulf of Papagayo side of the peninsula, with soft waves and rock formations that make a natural pool. Reaching it means hundreds of steps down through dry forest, which keeps it peaceful.

Tip

Arrive early: the free shuttle from the public parking can be slow, and there is nothing to buy at the beach.

Be careful

The climb back up is long and hot; carry plenty of water and don't attempt it with knee problems.

Getting there

Drive to the public beach parking of the Papagayo Peninsula complex (search 'parqueo playas Papagayo'); a free minibus takes you to the trailhead. Sources count 500 to 700 steps down.
